Description

Nut-Free Snowball Cookies are soft, melt-in-your-mouth treats coated in powdered sugar. These classic cookies combine buttery dough with optional semi-sweet morsels, baked to perfection with a delicate crumb and no nuts, making them perfect for those with nut allergies.

Ingredients

Scale

Cookie Dough

  • 1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter (softened)
  • 3/4 cup confectioners’ sugar (powdered sugar) (divided)
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 teaspoons pure vanilla extract
  • 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour

Optional

  • 1 cup semi-sweet mini morsels

Instructions

  1. Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit to prepare for baking the cookies.
  2. Mix Ingredients: In a large bowl, use an electric mixer to beat the softened butter, 1/4 cup of the confectioners’ sugar, granulated sugar, and vanilla extract together until creamy, about 2 minutes. Gradually add the flour in three batches, beating after each addition until fully incorporated. Stir in the mini morsels if you are using them.
  3. Shape Cookies: Shape rounded tablespoons of the dough into 1-inch balls and place them about 2 inches apart on ungreased baking sheets.
  4. Bake: Bake the cookies for about 12 to 14 minutes until they are lightly browned but still hold their ball shape and do not spread out on the pan.
  5. Cool Cookies: Allow the cookies to cool on the baking sheet for a couple of minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.
  6. Coat with Sugar: Place about 1/2 cup of additional confectioners’ sugar in a shallow bowl. Roll each cooled cookie in the sugar, then tap off the excess and place them back on the cooling rack.
  7. Set and Repeat: Let the cookies sit for one hour, then roll each cookie once more in the confectioners’ sugar for a finished coating.
  8. Store: Store the cookies in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 5 days.

Notes

  • These cookies are sweet and soft, melting in your mouth, evoking nostalgic childhood memories.
  • Using mini morsels is optional; you can omit them if desired to keep the classic flavor.
  • Do not grease the baking sheet to help the cookies keep their round shape instead of spreading.
  • Rolling the cookies twice in confectioners’ sugar adds a beautiful snowy coating and extra sweetness.
  • Make sure butter is softened to room temperature for easier mixing and a smooth dough.
  • Store cookies in an airtight container to maintain freshness and softness.
