Description

This Classic Cheeseburger Recipe delivers juicy, flavorful burgers topped with melted cheddar cheese, fresh lettuce, tomato slices, and a tangy homemade burger sauce. Perfectly seasoned and grilled to your desired doneness, these cheeseburgers capture the essence of an American classic with a simple yet delicious approach.

Ingredients

Scale

Burger Patties

  • 1/2 lb ground beef 80/20
  • Salt to taste
  • Pepper to taste

Burger Sauce

  • 1/2 cup mayonnaise
  • 1/4 cup ketchup
  • 2 tablespoons sweet pickle relish
  • 2 teaspoons sugar
  • 1 teaspoon white vinegar

Toppings

  • 2 slices medium cheddar or American cheese
  • 2 ripe tomato slices
  • Iceberg or green leaf lettuce leaves
  • Thinly sliced onion

Buns

  • 2 hamburger buns

Instructions

  1. Form Patties: Shape the ground beef into round patties about 1/3 to 1/2 pound each. Avoid compressing the beef too tightly to keep the burger juicy.
  2. Season Patties: Sprinkle salt and pepper on the patties just before placing them on the grill to enhance crust formation.
  3. Preheat Grill: Heat the grill on high until very hot to maximize crust development on the burgers.
  4. Grill Burgers: Place the patties on the hot grill and cook to your desired doneness using the temperature guide: 120°F for rare, 130°F for medium-rare, 140°F for medium, 150°F for medium-well, and 160°F and above for well-done.
  5. Add Cheese: When burgers are nearly done, top each patty with a slice of cheese and allow it to melt for 1 to 2 minutes.
  6. Assemble Burgers: Toast the hamburger buns if desired. Spread the homemade burger sauce on the buns, then layer the lettuce, tomato slices, onions, and the cheesy burger patties. Top with the remaining bun halves and serve immediately.

Notes

  • Use 80/20 ground beef for optimal flavor and juiciness.
  • Do not overhandle the beef to keep burgers tender and juicy.
  • Salting just before grilling helps create a perfect crust.
  • Customize toppings as preferred, adding pickles or mustard if desired.
  • Toast buns on the grill for extra flavor and texture.
  • Measure internal temperature with a meat thermometer for precision doneness.
