Description

Honey Garlic Chicken Kabobs are a delicious and easy-to-make grilled dish featuring tender, marinated chicken breast pieces skewered with fresh onions and sweet bell peppers. The chicken is soaked in a flavorful marinade made of honey, garlic, soy sauce, and black pepper, delivering a perfect balance of sweet, savory, and zesty notes. Ideal for sunny days and backyard grilling, these kabobs make a satisfying main course that’s full of vibrant flavors.

Ingredients

Scale

Marinade

  • 1/4 cup vegetable oil
  • 1/3 cup honey
  • 1/3 cup soy sauce
  • 1/4 tsp ground black pepper
  • 2 tbsp garlic (minced)

Chicken

  • 5-6 boneless skinless chicken breasts, cut into 1 inch cubes

Vegetables

  • 2 large onions, cut into 2 inch pieces
  • 4 sweet bell peppers, cut into 2 inch pieces

Other

  • skewers

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Marinade: In a large bowl, combine vegetable oil, honey, soy sauce, minced garlic, and ground black pepper. Stir thoroughly to blend the ingredients evenly.
  2. Marinate the Chicken: Add the cubed chicken breast pieces into the marinade. Stir to ensure every piece is fully coated and submerged. Cover the bowl and refrigerate for at least two hours. For best results, marinate longer to deepen the flavors.
  3. Heat the Grill: Preheat your grill to high heat to ensure a perfect sear and even cooking for the kabobs.
  4. Prepare the Skewers: Remove the chicken from the marinade and discard the leftover marinade. Thread the chicken pieces and the onion and bell pepper chunks alternately onto the skewers, assembling balanced portions on each.
  5. Oil the Grill Grate: Lightly brush or spray the grill grate with oil to prevent the kabobs from sticking during cooking.
  6. Grill the Kabobs: Place the skewers on the hot grill and cook for 12 to 15 minutes, turning occasionally. Continue grilling until the chicken is cooked through and the juices run clear, with a slight char on the vegetables.
  7. Serve: Remove the kabobs from the grill and serve immediately, either still on the skewers or plated.

Notes

  • For more flavor, marinate the chicken overnight in the refrigerator.
  • Can substitute chicken breasts with chicken thighs for juicier kabobs.
  • Use wooden skewers soaked in water for 30 minutes beforehand to prevent burning.
  • Add other vegetables like zucchini or mushrooms for variety.
  • If you don’t have a grill, these can be cooked on a grill pan or under a broiler in the oven.
