Description

Delight in the rich combination of dark chocolate and zesty orange with these decadent Chocolate Orange Truffles. These vegan treats boast a smooth, creamy texture enhanced by the freshness of orange juice and zest, coated in cocoa powder for a perfect finish. Ideal for festive occasions or a luxurious everyday snack, these bite-sized delights are simple to make and wonderfully indulgent.

Ingredients

Scale

Truffle Mixture

  • 3.5 oz dark chocolate (70% cocoa)
  • 2 tbsp refined coconut oil
  • 2 tbsp orange juice (freshly squeezed)
  • ½ tsp orange zest
  • 2 tbsp icing sugar (powdered sugar)
  • 1 tbsp cocoa powder (plus extra for dusting)

Instructions

  1. Chop the Chocolate: Chop or break the bar of dark chocolate into small pieces to ensure even melting.
  2. Melt the Chocolate: Place a heatproof bowl over a saucepan of boiling water, add the chopped chocolate to the bowl, and stir continuously until completely melted.
  3. Add Coconut Oil: Remove the bowl from heat and stir in the refined coconut oil until fully combined and smooth.
  4. Mix in Orange and Dry Ingredients: Add the freshly squeezed orange juice, orange zest, icing sugar, and cocoa powder, stirring until the mixture is completely smooth and homogeneous.
  5. Chill the Mixture: Place the mixture in the fridge and chill until solid enough to handle, usually 25 minutes. Check regularly to avoid overhardening.
  6. Shape the Truffles: Using a small spoon, scoop portions of the mixture and roll them into balls between your palms. To prevent melting, dust your hands with cocoa powder beforehand. If too sticky, chill longer before rolling.
  7. Coat the Truffles: Sprinkle cocoa powder on a plate and roll each truffle ball until evenly coated for a rich finish.
  8. Store and Serve: Store the truffles in an airtight container. Serve at room temperature for the best flavor and texture experience.

Notes

  • For a richer orange flavor, add an extra ¼ tsp of orange zest.
  • If you prefer a sweeter truffle, increase icing sugar by 1 tablespoon.
  • Store the truffles in the refrigerator for up to one week or freeze for longer storage.
  • To prevent melting during rolling, keep your hands cool or work in a cool environment.
  • For variation, roll truffles in chopped nuts or shredded coconut instead of cocoa powder.
