Description

Caprese Skewers are a fresh and vibrant appetizer combining juicy cherry tomatoes, fragrant basil, and creamy miniature mozzarella balls. Drizzled with extra-virgin olive oil and a tangy balsamic glaze, these skewers are seasoned with kosher salt and black pepper, making them a perfect, easy-to-assemble bite-sized Italian-inspired snack or appetizer for any gathering.

Ingredients

Scale

Main Ingredients

  • 16 to 18 (4-inch) wooden skewers
  • 1 pint cherry or grape tomatoes
  • 1 (12-ounce) container miniature cherry-sized fresh mozzarella balls (ciliegine)
  • 1 bunch fresh basil leaves (about 36 leaves)

For Drizzling and Seasoning

  • Extra-virgin olive oil, for drizzling
  • Balsamic glaze, for drizzling
  • Kosher salt, to taste
  • Freshly ground black pepper, to taste

Instructions

  1. Prepare Skewers: Take 16 to 18 (4-inch) wooden skewers and set them aside for assembly.
  2. Thread Ingredients: For each skewer, thread in order: 1 cherry tomato, 1 fresh basil leaf (folded in half if large), 1 miniature fresh mozzarella ball, another fresh basil leaf, and finish with 1 cherry tomato.
  3. Arrange on Platter: Place the assembled skewers neatly on a serving platter ready for dressing.
  4. Drizzle and Season: Lightly drizzle extra-virgin olive oil and balsamic glaze over the skewers. Then sprinkle kosher salt and freshly ground black pepper to taste.

Notes

  • Use in-season cherry tomatoes, fresh miniature mozzarella balls, and sweet basil for the best flavor.
  • Fold large basil leaves to fit the skewers nicely and ensure even distribution of flavor.
  • Balsamic glaze can be substituted with a balsamic reduction if unavailable.
  • These skewers can be prepared ahead and refrigerated, but drizzle oil and glaze just before serving.
